Cargill Cares for Global Communities in the fight against COVID-19

The world is facing unprecedented challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. In these extraordinary times, our priority at Cargill is to protect our people and the communities in which we operate, while maintaining critical food supply chains on which so many lives and livelihoods depend on.

As such, Cargill has committed USD35 million to work with non-profit and NGO partners around the globe to help address urgent food security, health, safety and industry needs.

Our response is guided by our purpose of nourishing the world in a safe, responsible and sustainable way. We are inspired by the medical professionals, first responders, workers and farmers in our communities who are caring for the sick and making sure that our essential needs are met.

Notably within Asia, Cargill donated funds to help build hospitals and supplied Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to medical facilities in Wuhan, China. In India, Cargill pledged 16 million meals to feed 150,000 families across 16 cities.

To help the communities where we live and work, and play our part to keep food supply chains running, Cargill Cocoa & Chocolate, the world’s second biggest cocoa and chocolate producer with presence in 52 locations, has supported:

  • World Cocoa Foundation with a financial contribution to help international relief organizations operating on the ground, in line with national emergency plans developed by governments of cocoa origination countries.

  • Cocoa farmers in Côte d’Ivoire via Cargill’s digital farming app, which was deployed to reach over 1,200 cooperative leaders to raise awareness on COVID-19 health and safety updates and to amplify government measures to curb the spread of the virus. Cargill also collaborated with Unilever to deliver 10,000 bars of soaps to farmer organizations.
  • Over 1,000 families in Ghana with food items in Tema where we operate a cocoa processing facility and buying company. Cargill also conducted safety training and distributed soaps and hand towels to 30,000 cocoa farmers.

  • Villages in Gresik, Indonesia where we operate a cocoa processing plant and warehouse, with disinfecting activities, food & PPE distribution as well as donation of PPE to hospitals, medical facilities and the local community COVID-19 taskforce.

  • Hospitals in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, one of our commercial hubs in the region, with PPE donation.
  • Underprivileged families and individuals in Singapore, our Asia-Pacific headquarters, with PPE and food supplies via Beyond Social Services.

The pandemic has tested all of us, personally and professionally. Yet, it has also proven how resilient our food systems and communities can be when we all work together. As the world continues to battle the impact of COVID-19, Cargill will remain here to help.
